The establishment is engaged in postal service. It is owned entirely by the Finnish government and is managed by the Ministry of Transport and Communications. The establishment is the leading provider of messaging and logistics services in Finland and selected markets in Northern Europe. Its conventional postal services include letter, newspaper and magazine, direct-mail and parcel delivery services. It operates in nine Northern European countries, including Finland, Scandinavia, Baltic countries, Germany and Russia. The establishment's business is divided into three units: Information Logistics (operating under the name of Itella), Logistics and Messaging. The Information Logistics division provides solutions for communications going digital in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. It also provides companies and other organisations with services for digital printing, data management, e-service transactions and direct marketing. The Logistics division provides transport and contract-logistics services in Finland, Scandinavia, the Baltic Rim countries and Russia. IT-based solutions enable corporate customers to outsource parts of their logistics or the entire logistics chain. The Messaging division is Finland's leading provider of letter, magazine/newspaper and direct-mail delivery services. It is Finland's only nationwide mail delivery network, reaching every Finnish household, company and other organisation five days a week. It is also the leading provider of morning, evening and weekend delivery services. The company is a member of Project Management Association Finland (PMAF), Association of Finnish Advertisers, and The American Chamber of Commerce in Finland (AmCham Finland). It has established an agreement with Aldata Solution Oyj for the outsourcing of the main security system user services of Aldata. The establishment aims to ensure the delivery of important items sent by its customers - in both physical and digital format.
