Tui enjoys record bookings after Thomas Cook collapse
Tui, the world’s biggest tour operator, has enjoyed a surge in summer bookings following the collapse of its rival Thomas Cook, helping to offset the impact of the grounding of the Boeing 737 Max aircraft.
The company had its best January to date, with bookings for summer holidays up by 14% year on year. “January this year was very, very strong,” said the Tui chief executive, Fritz Joussen. “I cannot remember any start in the year where that has happened.”

Holiday company TUI (TUIGn.DE) (TUIT.L) on Friday said it would receive 700 million euros ($767 million) from the sale of its Hapag-Lloyd Cruises unit to its joint venture with Royal Caribbean Cruises (RCL.N).
