Starbucks Is Paying All Workers for the Next 30 Days, Even If They Choose to Stay Home

Coffee chain Starbucks has announced that it will be paying all employees for the next 30 days, regardless of whether or not they actually show up to work.

This decision comes in the aftermath of an online petition, which urged the company to close all of its locations in order to keep workers safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. The company will offer catastrophe pay and access to mental health resources and childcare support for workers who do opt to keep coming into work.

US Companies suspended operations or instituted travel restrictions to China

Facebook is the first major U.S. technology company to ban all non-essential travel to the country. Other companies including Disney, McDonald’s, Starbucks and Ford Motor have either suspended operations or instituted travel restrictions there. Apple shares fell on Monday amid concerns that the company, which has high revenue exposure in China, would be hurt by any impact the coronavirus might have on consumer spending.
