It was founded by Martin Sixt in 1912 as Sixt Autofahrten und Selbstfahrer. The company started with seven cars, four Mercedes and three Luxus-Deutz-Landaulets. The registered office of the company is based in Pullach, Germany.The company is a global player supplying high-quality mobility solutions. It has the world's largest BMW and Mercedes Benz fleet, the latest models of top car makes, sports cars, convertibles, jeeps, and trucks. It operates through two business units: vehicle rental and leasing unit. The vehicle rental unit rents automobiles including cars, trucks and holiday cars, as well as limousine service and used vehicle sales to corporate and private customers. The company's leasing unit provides a full range of leasing services, including pure-play finance leasing, full-service leasing, fleet management, billing and reporting, as well as fleet consulting. It also operates an online platform, which offers access to its vehicle rentals and leasing offers, the sale of new and used vehicles, travel management and insurance services. In addition, it owns one of the first rent-a-car companies in Germany, specializing in day-trips and custom tours whose clients are almost exclusively members of the British nobility and dollar-rich Americans.The company has strategic alliances with ADAC, Vodafone, American Express, Lufthansa, Air Berlin, Hilton Hotels in Europe and Israel, and Hyatt Hotels and Resort.
