The was originally established by Takeshi Yamashita as Takachiho Seisakusho in October 1919, and took the name Olympus Corp. in October 2003. It is publicly traded on the Tokyo Stock Exchange under the stock code 7733 and headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.The company's operation is organized in five main business divisions: Imaging, Medical, Life Sciences, Information Communication, and Others. The Imaging division offers digital cameras, film cameras and voice recorders. The Medical division sells medical endoscopes, surgical endoscopes, endoscope disposal equipment and ultrasonic endoscopes. The Life Science division offers clinical hemanalysis systems and microscopes. Its microscopes cover a wide range of applications from education and routine studies up to state-of-the-art research imaging systems both in life science and materials science. The Information Communication division provides semiconductor-related equipment, electronic machines, network systems and mobile terminals, such as cellular phones. This division also provides mobile solutions and mobile contents services, as well as develops and sells package software. The Others division sells industrial endoscopes, nondestructive inspection equipment, printers and bar code scanners.The company's aim is turning people's ideas and dreams into reality. It has production facilities in such locations as Hatagaya, Ishikawa, Kuboyama, Ina-shi, Tatsuno-machi, Okaya-shi, and Nagaizumi-cho. Its Olympus-branded products are distributed through its offices located in the United States, Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania. In addition, the company's operations in the United States are based in Center Valley, Pennsylvania, while the European operations are based in Hamburg, Germany.
