The company was founded in 1963 by Prof. Georg Nemetschek as a civil engineering firm in Munich. This was a time when computer applications were first being used in the construction industry. Headquartered in Munchen, Germany, the company is one of the world's leading technology companies for the design, construction and management of buildings and real estate.The company's solutions are targeted at architects, engineers, multimedia designers, building contractors and facility and real estate managers. The company operates through three business units: Build, which operates through Nemetschek Bausoftware GmbH and covers the BAU financials range, an integrated solution for the construction business; Design, which focuses on commercial software solutions for the planning of building projects; and Manage, which offers solutions that span the complete life cycle of a building, from the initial concept to the construction and management. It has more than 1,000 employees, of which about 600 work in Germany, about 150 in Western Europe, almost 200 in Eastern Europe and about 80 in the United States. The company's research and development center in Bratislava was established in 1992 and employs 125 developers. In addition, such center opened in Sofia in 1999 with about 50 developers. It has more than 170,000 customers in 142 countries around the world. Further, the company's aim is to deliver the best possible, most innovative and most successful software solutions.
