It was formed in 1919 and has its registered principal place of business in New York, New York.The company is a leading global independent energy company. It operates in two business areas: exploration & production and marketing & refining. The company directs over 95 percent of its total capital expenditures to exploration, development and production activities. Its exploration and production operations are located in the United States, Norway, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Russia, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. It is the leading independent marketer of petroleum products on the East Coast with over 1,350 HESS-branded retail outlets. In addition, the HESS EXPRESS convenience stores lead the industry in inside sales and outside fuel volumes. Its marketing areas includes in New York, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Virginia, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida. The HOVENSA refinery in the United States Virgin Islands, which is a joint venture of a subsidiary of the company and a subsidiary of Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA), is one of the largest crude oil refineries in the world. Refined petroleum products, as well as natural gas and electricity are marketed to customers throughout the East Coast of the United States, allowing the company to meet the total energy needs of its customer base while maintaining a low-cost operating base.The company aims to maximize its shareholder value by enhancing financial performance and providing long-term profitable growth.
