The company, with headquarters located in Basel, Switzerland, was founded in 1865 as a retailer in Switzerland under the name of Weitnauer.It is one of the leading international operators in the travel retail sector. The company operates in airports, ferry ports, railway stations and on cruise liners, as well as in-flight and at downtown tourist areas and border crossings. Its outlets are categorized according to three retail concepts: general travel retail outlets, which offer a traditional assortment of products, including alcohol, tobacco, confectionery, perfumes and cosmetics; brand boutiques, which offer a range of products from designer brands, such as Bulgari, DKNY, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Etro, Ferragamo, Montblanc, Zegna, or Hermes; and specialized shops, which offer various brands of a single product, for example cigars, jewelry or confectionery.The company, which operates more than 300 duty-free shops in 21 countries on four continents, is active in Europe, Africa, Eurasia and Asia, North America and Caribbean, and South America. Some of the principal locations of the company are: Benito Jua¡rez International Airport, Mexico City (Mexico); Malpensa International Airport and all of Milan's train stations (Italy); Belgrade Airport (Serbia); Sharjah International Airport (United Arab Emirates); Tunis-Carthage International Airport (Tunisia); Mohammed V International Airport, Casablanca (Morocco); Sheremetyevo International Airport, Moscow (Russia).In February 2006, the company bought Brasif, the major duty free company in Brazil for more than 500 millions US dollars and in December 2006 acquired all the Duty Frees in Puerto Rico for 158 million dollars.The company, a company listed on the SWX Swiss Exchange, aims to be the industry's most innovative and profitable company.
