It is the largest food and beverage company in the world. With headquarters in Vevey, Switzerland, it produces a wide range of products across a number of markets including coffee, water, other beverages, ice cream, infant foods, performance and healthcare nutrition, seasonings, frozen and refrigerated foods, confectionery and pet food. Several of the company's brands are globally renowned, which include: Nescafe, Nestea, Carnation, Nido, Bear Brand, Coffee-Mate, Lactogen, Cerelac, Maggi, Buitoni, Kit Kat, Smarties, Butterfinger, Polo, Purina, Friskies, Milo, Nestea, Smarties, Alpo, Smarties, Nesvita, Perrier and others.It was founded in 1866 by Henri Nestle. Henri Nestle, a pharmacist, developed a food for babies who were unable to breastfeed. His first success was a premature infant who could not tolerate his mother's milk or any of the usual substitutes. People quickly recognized the value of the new product, after Nestle's new formula saved the child's life, and soon, Farine Lactee Henri Nestle was being sold in much of Europe.It is also involved in several joint ventures. The Laboratoires Inneov is a joint venture in nutritional cosmetics between the company and L'Oreal, while Galderma is a joint veture in dermatology with L'Oreal. Other joint ventures include Cereal Partners Worldwide with General Mills, Beverage Partners Worldwide with Coca-Cola, and Dairy Partners Americas with Fonterra.The company's strategy is guided by several fundamental principles. Its existing products grow through innovation and renovation while maintaining a balance in geographic activities and product lines. Long-term potential is never sacrificed for short-term performance. The company's priority is to bring the best and most relevant products to people, wherever they are, whatever their needs, throughout their lives. Nestlé firma l'European Plastic Pact

Nestlé ha deciso di firmare l'European Plastics Pact, lanciato da Francia e Paesi Bassi per accelerare la transizione verso un'economia circolare della plastica. Il Patto - viene spiegato - aiuterà Nestlé a raggiungere l'obiettivo del 100% di imballaggi riciclabili o riutilizzabili e a ridurre di un terzo l'utilizzo di plastica vergine entro il 2025. L'European Plastics Pact riunisce aziende leader, così come ONG e governi, che si impegnano a raggiungere insieme obiettivi comuni entro il 2025, andando anche oltre l'attuale legislatura.

Children as young as eight picked coffee beans on farms supplying Starbucks

Nespresso also named in TV exposé of labour scandal in Guatemala.

High street coffee shop giant Starbucks has been caught up in a child labour row after an investigation revealed that children under 13 were working on farms in Guatemala that supply the chain with its beans.

How can Nespresso tackle child labour in its coffee supply chain?

Even where businesses pay premiums to their suppliers, this is often insufficient to end child labour in communities.

No one who has ever dealt with the challenges of agricultural livelihoods in the global South should ever be surprised that child labour remains an issue. However a report that Channel 4’s Despatches programme has filmed children picking coffee beans and hauling sacks on six Guatemalan farms believed to supply Nespresso gives a shocking glimpse of the cynicism with which some businesses seem to treat this issue.
