It operates approximately 5,000 stores, of which approximately 2000 are located in Germany. The company has stores in the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.The company sells everything from purses and peas to produce and PCs. The stores commonly carry about 800 different items, mostly under Lidl's own brand. It is a subsidiary of the Schwarz Stiftung holding group, which also owns the store chains Handelshof and Kaufland.
