JOINT STOCK COMPANY RUSAL BRATSK ALUMINIUM SMELTER

The company, also known as Rusal Bratsk, is engaged in the production of aluminium. The company has its registered office located near the Bratsk HPP and consumes approximately 75 percent of all electricity generated by the plant.The company operates as aluminium smelter within the aluminium division of the Russian company Rusal, the second largest producer of primary aluminum in the world and the largest producer in Russia. The company is the largest primary aluminium producer in the world. In 2005, the smelter produced more than 976 kt of primary aluminium. It operates by using Soderberg technology. In 2001, the company was switched to «semi-dry» anode technology as an interim stage. Since 2005, all 25 potrooms of the smelter operate by the more efficient and environmentally friendly «dry» anode technology. The company is certified in compliance with international standards of quality management (ISO 9001) and environmental management (ISO 14001). In addition to investments, the company has planned to implement the following investment projects at the Bratsk Aluminium Smelter: the construction of a container terminal for shipment of finished products, construction of a new casting complex (with a designed capacity of 120 ktpa of slabs), development of alloy production, further modernisation of the smelter automated process control system (APCS), modernisation of power equipment, and extension of pot productivity.
