It operates through five business areas: Holmen Paper, which produces and sells newsprint, magazine paper and directory paper using virgin fiber and recycled fiber; Iggesund Paperboard, which produces and sells solid bleached board and folding boxboards, using virgin fiber as a raw material; Iggesund Timber, which produces and sells sawed redwood timber to industrial manufactures of consumer products; Holmen Skog, which is engaged in the procurement of wood for the company's Swedish mills and for managing the company's one million hectares of forest; and Holmen Kraft, which supplies electricity for Holmen's Swedish operations.The company has an annual production capacity of 2.7 million tons of paper and paperboard. It has production in Spain and Sweden for the production of printing paper. Sawn timber is produced in Sweden. The company's largest individual markets are Sweden, United Kingdom, Germany and Spain. Scandinavia and The UK are the main markets for sawn timber.

New study confirms non-recycled paper is better for the climate

When produced where the environmental impact of producing electricity is low, and where the forest is sustainably managed, paper from fresh fibres has lower environmental impact than paper from recycled fibres. That’s the conclusion of a new life cycle study made by IVL, Swedish Environmental Research Institute.
