It is a leading broadcaster of sports, movies, entertainment and news. More than eight million customers - equivalent to almost one in three households in the UK and Ireland - enjoy an unprecedented choice of movies, news, entertainment and sports channels and interactive services on Sky digital, the first and most popular digital pay-TV service in UK and Ireland. Sky is an established and widely recognised brand, with a reputation for quality and innovation. It operates and distributes 28 wholly-owned channels, including Sky One, Sky News, Sky Travel, the Sky Sports channels and the Sky Movies channels, via its digital service. Sky retails a further 109 third party channels to DTH viewers. It also operates the Sky BoxOffice (SBO) service, which provides pay-per-view films, sporting events and concerts. Customers can also use Sky+, Sky's digital video recorder, to record and store their favourite programmes to watch. Consumers can also enjoy Sky content on their PC or mobile phone following the launch of Sky by broadband, Sky by mobile and Sky Mobile TV services.The company's primary objective is to maximise value for shareholders by focusing on profitable growth in the number of subscribers to its digital pay television services in the UK and Ireland.
