It was originally founded as Collins Radio Company in 1933 for the purpose of designing and producing shortwave radio equipment. It is trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the trading symbol COL, and has its corporate headquarters in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, United States. The company operates in two business divisions: commercial systems, which supplies air transport aviation electronics and aviation electronics systems and products including communications, navigation, surveillance, displays and automatic flight control and flight management systems; and government systems, which supplies defense communications, defense electronics systems and products including subsystems, navigation and displays, to the U.S. Department of Defense, other government agencies, civil agencies, defense contractors and foreign ministries of defense. The company is one of the leading suppliers of in-flight entertainment on board aircraft. It also offers a range of services and support to the customers through its network of service centers. These services include equipment repair and overhaul, service parts, field service engineering, training, technical information services and aftermarket used equipment sales. The company has 60 service centers worldwide for repair, overhaul, service parts, field service engineering, and training purposes. Its operations outside the United States principally include Canada, Chile, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Luxembourg, France, and Bermuda.
