This company supplies peat as a fuel for the generation of electricity; a range of peat-based fuels, coal and oil for residential and industrial heating; horticultural products for commercial horticulturists and home gardeners; and pollution abatement products, environmental consultancy and commercial laboratory services to industry and public authorities. It is a semi-state company in the Republic of Ireland, created in 1946 by the Turf Development Act, 1946. It conducts business from its registered head office which is strategically located in Newbridge, County Kildare, Ireland.The company is a leading international supplier of products and services based on peat. The company's strategic vision is to profitably meet its customers' needs for high-quality products and services in the energy, horticultural and environmental markets. The company has developed a number of products which were novel developments. Its peat briquettes products replace sods of raw peat as a domestic fuel. These briquettes consist of shredded peat, compressed to form a virtually smokeless (once lit), slow-burning, easily stored and transported fuel. Another product developed was peat moss, a combination of peat and earth for use in the garden--particularly to pot plants. The company also supply the remaining peat to power stations of the Electricity Supply Board. The company comprises four subsidiaries operating from 20 locations throughout Ireland and through additional subsidiaries operating in the United Kingdom and United States.
