Apple Supplier Hon Hai Production Down By Half, Order Cancelations Plausible
Hon Hai Precision Industry, best known as Foxconn and as an Apple supplier, said in a conference call yesterday that their production is at about 50%, adding that they should be fully functioning by the end of the month in a best case scenario.
Foxconn executives said that the ongoing public health crisis in China stemming from the new coronavirus outbreak will likely drive sales down by around 15% year over year in the first quarter. They said they have not had any contracts, like Apple, cancel orders at this time.

Many Taiwan-based IT firms are feeling the heat from the coronavirus outbreak that is delaying their production from returning normal following Lunar New Year. But TSMC and UMC have revealed that their fabs in China have been running as usual. Despite the foundry houses' reassuring revelations, many Taiwanese IC designers have turned cautious about their first-quarter 2020 performances, with some already lowering their sales guidance. For the displays industry, the virus-imposed lockdown of Wuhan may have serious consequences, as the Chinese city is home to several major LCD and OLED panel fabs of China-based makers.
US Companies suspended operations or instituted travel restrictions to China
Facebook is the first major U.S. technology company to ban all non-essential travel to the country. Other companies including Disney, McDonald’s, Starbucks and Ford Motor have either suspended operations or instituted travel restrictions there. Apple shares fell on Monday amid concerns that the company, which has high revenue exposure in China, would be hurt by any impact the coronavirus might have on consumer spending.
